Grief is a strong emotion and may be accompanied by feelings like shock, disbelief, anger, sadness, guilt, and remorse. It’s a natural reaction to loss, whether it’s the loss of a loved one, a home, a relationship, or a change in your personal circumstances.

Feeling Grief

At first, the intense emotional and physical pain of grief and loss can be overwhelming and seemingly uncontrollable. People’s responses to loss are partially dependent on their relationship with the loss, but everyone experiences and reacts to grief differently. You may experience, shock, disbelief, bargaining, depersonalization. Then some feelings such as anger, anxiety, depression, guilt, frustration and confusion. The next stage is beginning to participate in new lifestyle, attempting at moving forward then Acceptance. As human beings you may be in and out of the stages at various times depending on the circumstances.

Coping with Grief

There is no one right way to grieve. Your experience of grief, including its length and intensity, will be unique. To begin the process of working through grief, you must first acknowledge it. Problem Grief can occur when one does not experience normal grief and is experiencing avoidance.
